Scope and Boundary of Application

The "Process and Guidelines for Divorce Certificate Application" focuses on document preparation when divorce judgments or divorce records are used in China or other areas where the convention is applicable. Before starting, the specific documents required by the receiving unit, originals or certified copies, Chinese translations, number of copies and deadlines should be confirmed. How to group the materials

First distinguish between the divorce judgment issued by the court and the divorce certificate issued by the vital records department. The Chinese recipient may only accept one of them.

Use fully certified copies of court documents and check whether the issuing court is state or federal.

Item-by-item checklist

• First confirm with the Chinese receiving unit the translation language, stamping method and whether it needs to be bound with the certification page.
• The translation should completely cover the name, number, seal, signature and Apostille, not just the main text.
• Whether county certification is required depends on the signer and the issuing agency; not all states and all documents require this layer.
• New York notarized documents and some local vital records especially need to be verified by the county clerk for pre-certification.
• Establish a list of receipt requirements around the "Process and Guidelines for Divorce Certificate Processing", recording at least the file name, version, number of copies, translation and deadline.

Don’t be confused with the concept of certification

State documents are usually treated by the issuing state. The applicant's state of residence, agency location and China usage location will not change the source of the document.
