New York School Transcript Processing Apostille: School Certification, Notarization, County Certification and State Certification
New York education documents are usually first certified by a school official as an official record or a true copy, then notarized, signed, and county certified.
Ask the school and the recipient first
Official transcripts, electronic direct transcripts, sealed transcripts and students’ self-printed transcripts have different uses. First confirm whether the overseas school, employer or evaluation agency really requires Apostille, whether it is allowed to open the envelope, and whether it requires transcripts or degree certificates.
Core of New York State Official Requirements
The school official should certify that the document is an official record or a true copy of the original; the notary will then perform the notarization process for the school official’s signature. It is then usually certified by the County Clerk in the county where the notary is located and submitted to the New York State Department.
Do not notarize student copies directly
A student's declaration of his/her own copy is not the same thing as a school official's certification of an official record. Printed copies not confirmed by the school may result in their return or not being accepted by overseas institutions.
Version and translation management
Record the Registrar name, school seal, issue date, page number and sealing status. The translation should include courses, credits, grades, back notes, and certification pages; if the school reissues, the old Apostille will not automatically apply to the new version.
